Editing Info(Edit)

How To(Edit)

1/ General Info(Edit)

  • This wiki is a on-the-fly database, it doesn't use a mySQL structure (only PHP)
  • The general URL of the wiki is : http://jeromejoy.org/SAET/
  • You must have a password for editing, modifying, and creating wiki pages
  • Once used, the password is registered into your browser (cookie) (very useful if you're always using the same computer)
  • If you're editing the SAET wiki on another machine (borrowed at the occasion, or temporary used), don't forget to LOG OUT after your session (on top-right command menu), in order to avoid that someone else uses your SAET privilege.
  • The password can be modified at any time if spam attacks disturb the wiki
  • An email address "saet@locusonus.org" is dedicated to the SAET project. Each main contributor and administrator receives messages posted to this address. Thus the readers can post to the SAET team for suggestions and corrections.

2/ Create an entry(Edit)

  • First check the Index list about the existing entry
    • If it doesn't exist, edit the Index page : click the "Edit" link on top-right of the page
    • And write the entry title at the right place (copy-paste an existing entry and type new info)
    • Create the link to the new wiki page corresponding to this entry
    • Like this : add square brackets and bold style
    • Example : [Title of the Exhibition|YEARexhibition]
    • The title of the new page will be YEARexhibition (respect this format in order to easily find the page into the "recent changes" and into "list of all pages" lists)
    • (Enter the password) (if it didn't already registered by the website cookie) (see below)
    • Save the Index page
  • If the entry is already existing, you can correct its presentation if necessary
  • or directly go to the entry page by clicking on its link
  • Into the Index page, each title of an existing wiki page (and entry) appears in bold capitals and underlined
  • When the new entry is created into the Index page
    • Go to 4/ EDIT THE ENTRY PAGE

3/ Create an entry (alternate mode)(Edit)

  • You can directly create a new entry page
  • by clicking on "create page" on top-right command menu
  • a new page opens with a name like this : "NEW PAGE CHANGE ITS NAME"
  • follow the process with the use of the Template page for creating the entry structure
  • copy/paste and save your page
  • edit it again (with the "create page" on top-right command menu)
  • and change the name of the page (delete "NEW PAGE CHANGE ITS NAME", and write the new title : YEARexhibition
  • save the page, it's done
  • but your entry is not referenced into the Index page, so you must edit the Index page, write the new entry (with the exact page name of the new entry), and save the page

4/ Edit the entry page(Edit)

  • Into the Index page, locate the link to the new entry
  • Click to the link you have created
  • A new blank page opens in the Edit mode, with the title of the new entry
  • For easy use, open into a new window the prepared "template" : Template
  • Copy the page structure (present into the Template page)
  • And paste it into your new entry page
  • You can write info corresponding to the new entry into the right paragraphs
  • After writing info you can previsualize the page : click on "Preview" on bottom of the page
  • Correct the info if it's needed
  • When info are ready, you can save your page
  • the "Summary of changes" permits to write a short summary for a minor (or major) modifications. These info appear on the Recent Changes page.

5/ Editing mode(Edit)

  • On editing mode, you can use style shortcuts. It's useful when you don't know the wiki codes for styling text (available by clicking on "Syntax" link)
  • You can insert medias : pictures, audio, video (see next paragraph). For this you've got two options : to insert URL of existing files on the web, or to upload files on the SAET server (it's ok for pictures and audio files and not recommanded for video files (because these files are generally too heavy).

6/ Medias(Edit)

  • Be careful, don't use blank spaces and accentuated characters into file names.
  • For inserting mp3 audio files (mp3 only), please refer to an example : 1975venice .
    • Edit the page, and copy/paste the block concerning the audio player :
    • {html}
      <TABLE BORDER=0" WIDTH="100%" style="background-color:#CCCCCC;">
      <TR>
      <TD>
      <small>Artist name — <i>Work name</i></small><br>
      <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://joy.nujus.net/w/webs/dewplayer-vol.swf" width="350" height="20" id="dewplayer" name="dewplayer">
      <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
      <param name="movie" value="http://joy.nujus.net/w/webs/dewplayer-vol.swf" />
      <param name="flashvars" value="mp3=http://www.website.com/pathofyourfile/yearnameofthefile.mp3&bgcolor=FFFFFF&showtime=1&autoplay=0&autoreplay=0&volume=100" />
      </object>
      <br><br><small><i>Source : <A HREF="http://www.website.com/" target="_blank">http://www.website.com/ </A></i></small>
      </TD>
      </TR>
      </TABLE>
      {/html}
    • re-write the URL of the mp3 audio file (in bold above)
    • The absolute URL of an audio file you've uploaded from the wiki is :
    • http://joy.nujus.net/SAET/var/upload/snd/YEARexhibitionnameofthefile.mp3
    • And the result will appear like this :

Artist name — Work name

Source : http://www.website.com/

  • You can insert video files from YouTube and Vimeo, by inserting between two wiki codes : {html} {/html} the generated shared code by YouTube,
    • for instance :
    • <iframe width="853" height="480" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/aaaaaaaaa?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
      (you can choose the width and the height on YouTube)
    • or from Vimeo :
      <iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/aaaaaa?title=0&byline=0&portrait=0&color=ffffff" width="500" height="331" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/aaaaaa">Title of the work</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/bbbbbbbb">Name of the Vimeo user</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
    • And here is the result :

Source : Jean Dupuy / Jérôme Joy, "Concert de Secondes", 2011

7/ To probe the database(Edit)

  • Use the "Search" bot. It scans all the wiki pages.
  • Use the "Recent Changes" feature in order to access to the recent modifications
  • Use the "List of all pages" link (on top-right command menu). The list is alphabetically ordered.

8/ Useful tips(Edit)

when you edit a wiki page

  • use the previsualition feature before saving your page and adjust step by step, previsualisation by previsualisation, info and appearance of the page.

how to create a link to an existing wiki page

  • write the name of the targeted wiki page between two square brackets.
  • [About] will be displayed : About

a dead link

  • will appear in white.
  • for instance the page Blabla doesn't exist
  • so [Blabla] will be displayed : Blabla
  • by clicking on the dead link, you can create and edit the new page

urls into a page

  • absolute url (starting with http:// ) automatically opens a new window into the browser
  • relative url ../folder/nameofthefile or folder/nameofthefile opens into the same used window (required for using the picture slimbox feature)

accentuated characters

  • don't use accentuated or exotic characters and blank spaces into page names
  • into page contents, the wiki recognizes a large number of accentuated characters from various languages
  • a feature permits to capitalize text when it's required : write the opening code {cap} at the beginning of the chosen text, and the ending code {/cap}. For instance : {cap}capitalize{/cap} will be displayed : capitalize

how to insert a picture

  • you can insert jpeg, jpg, gif, and png files
    • Be careful, don't use blank spaces and accentuated characters into file names.

    • or with relative url : (when you know it)
      • for instance : [../files/articles/soundartexhibitions/2004compatibleb.jpg]
      • will be displayed : ../files/articles/soundartexhibitions/2004compatibleb.jpg

  • how to insert a picture of a jpg file you've uploaded from the wiki :
    • the wiki is storing the img files you upload into a folder : var//upload/img/
    • so the path to grab this img file is : /var/upload/img/YEARexhibitionnameofthefile.jpg
  • thus the file 2004compatibleb.jpg stored into the upload folder can be displayed with :
      • [var/upload/img/2004compatibleb.jpg]
      • Example : var/upload/img/2004compatibleb.jpg

the slimbox picture feature

  • This wiki is using the slimbox feature, thus the page can display a picture thumb and when the reader clicks on it, a large image is opening
  • It's very useful for large pictures (or to offer the view of details of a large image)
  • For using this feature for displaying an img file uploaded from the wiki, you must use this code :
    • [folder/subfolder/tinypicture.jpg|folder/subfolder/largepicture.jpg]
    • By clicking the picture you're opening a layer with the large picture
    • For instance :
      var/upload/img/2004compatible.jpg

      that is coding like this :
      [var/upload/img/2004compatibleb.jpg|var/upload/img/2004compatible.jpg]

how to control the breaklines ?

  • a double breakline is recognized (by using the "Enter" key on your keyboard)
  • if you want to use a simple breakline, you must use the wiki code {br} without the "Enter" key.
  • like this :
  • code : the first line{br}the second line, will be displayed :

the first line
the second line

wiki syntax help

to upload a file (img, snd, video, pdf, etc.)

  • use the Upload command, on right-top command menu or into the menu when you're using the editing mode of a page

how to name a file to upload

  • please use the same protocol than for the page name :
  • YEARexhibitionfilename
  • for instance : 2004compatibleposter.jpg, or 2004compatibleexcerpt.mp3 and 2004compatibleexcerpt2.mp3, etc.

how to delete a page and delete it from the database and the server ?

  • simply delete all contents of the page in editing mode
  • so the page must be blank (you can leave the page name)
  • and save it
  • the wiki engine will automatically delete the page

the page history command

  • the wiki engine keeps history of each page
  • if you save unfortunately a page with wrong info or if you're deleting info you don't want, you can always restore your former saved pages
  • click on the "History" link on top-right of each page

languages

  • the wiki engine is using a lot of languages
  • thus the user can access to the structure of the wiki in his/her own language (to access the commands and the menu(s)), by using the scrolling menu on top-right of each page
  • each wiki page can be saved into different languages by adding into the name page a suffix (for instance .fr for French when the page is the translation in French of an existing page, or .de for German, and so on. For the SAET wiki, we're using English pages and excerpt of description into the original language (of a work for instance, or of an event) can be inserted into the wiki page (paragraph : Description (Or. Lang.))

what is the {NO_COMMENTS} command ?

  • Each page begins by the {NO_COMMENTS} code (seen when you're in editing mode)
  • This command removes the "Comments" feature. Actually, each page has got a comment part where readers can leave comments related to the page. But for security reasons, this feature is removes.

what is the {TOC} command ?

  • the {TOC} code creates an automatic and generated menu starting from the paragraph titles (built with wiki codes)
  • This command can be placed everywhere into the page.

the footnotes command

  • For the use of this command, please refer to the About page, edit it and you'll see how this command is operating
  • The footnotes are inserted into the contents and the text with the help of {footnote} and {/footnote}.
  • The footnotes are called at the bottom of the page with the {plugin:FOOT_NOTES} code.

other features ?

  • Other features are existing into this wiki engine but are disabled : tag cloud, page comments, etc.

RSS feed

  • Url : http://jeromejoy.org/SAET/var/rss.xml
  • contains the 20 last updates
  • each update is corresponding to any saved modifications (even into the same page)
  • so the use of the previsualisation feature is necessary before saving a page
